Image Journal #5-What did you eat?

The dish that I decided to make and photograph is a Czechoslovakian traditional dish called Haluski Kapusta. I chose to make this dish because my grandpa’s family is from the Czech Republic, his grandfather moved from there to Streator IL and this history of my family always has interested me. I knew this dish was a popular one within my family however I have never made it before. My grandma loves to cook so, for this assignment I knew right away what my idea would be. Haluski Kapusta is made of noodles, cabbage, butter, onions, and lots of salt and pepper. Haluski Kapusta is often used during Lent because it is a very flavorful meatless dish. Through the process of making this meal I learned a lot about adjusting the White Balance as well as ISO as I was inside photographing trying to balance indoor Tuscan lighting mixed with natural life from the windows. This assignment shows the process of the ingredients needed, the steps to cook it, the small mess it makes, and the delicious final product. I loved spending time with family preparing this dish as well as learning even more about my family history in the process.
