Image Journal

For this image journal I wanted to showcase different types of isolation. Some with distance, some with the symbolism of when they aren’t touched for a long time, and others represent how us humans feel when we feel isolated. My reference image is below.

Image Journal-Texture

I was excited about this image journal. Capturing the details of textures with photography has always been one of my favorite parts of it. Textures are everywhere so I wanted to use this image journal to take many basic items around the house and yard and bring out their textures even more by using lighting, focus, and the correct angles to get the most depth of field. I learned in this image journal that the tiny details built into the texture of all items are extremely important in their beauty. Lighting and depth of field really bring out the most in any and every texture. The image below is my reference image. Getting up close to the subject, strong focus, and great lighting are all very important to create these images.

This image journal all about color really interested me. It was interesting to see how often we decorate things in our houses with things that coordinate so well with the color wheel and these different color harmonies. This assignment has made me more aware of the different colors and how paying attention to them can really take photos to the next level.

These 6 images represent minimalism. They show the basics of the object and the details within it will little to no distraction.

The last three images are opposite of the first 6. They represent maximalism. These three images have a lot going on and in comparison to the last image journal they are similar with the idea of visual noise. These images have a lot going on and I’m my opinion too much. I feel like maximalism works best in telling a story about what is going on in the space or about the person. I feel like the sewing room image works to tell a story, although the others just have too much going on.

Image Journal #10

This image journal creating visual noise and maximalism was interesting to do. It showed be even more to be aware of everything in my pictures to make sure that I only have what I want in the image. Many of these images have too much going on in them. Through this project I learned that I like minimalism much more than maximalism. Some images have too much going on in them such as the garage, fridge, laundry room. And other images like the book bag, the image of the pine trees and a few others have details in them that I would have cropped out if I was creating my perfect image. Paying attention to the small details is very important.

Image journal 8

This assignment showed me that making sure you have the right white balance, exposure, and ISO really makes a big difference in how the photo turns out. It also showed me how far I have come this semester. I started out not being able to correct my issues with the exposure, and now I can adjust it in many ways purposely creating many different photos of the same things based upon different settings I want to try.

Image Journal #9

When I think of minimalism I think of simple, plants. I love plants and how their simple detail brings so much interest to a space. With this project I learned more about how to move my body to capture the image I wanted rather than just moving the camera/object around. I also focused on how the lighting was reflecting off the image as well as creating a shadow of it. The last photo is my reference image.
